We deliver in-person information, advice and guidance services to meet the needs of our clients.

Information and Advice

We provide one-to-one confidential Information & Advice services including in BSL across England. Our goal is to  help  D/deaf and hard of hearing people develop their independence and wellbeing.

The Information & Advice support we offer includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Welfare Benefits 
  • Housing 
  • Debt 
  • Employment 
  • Consumer and community care 
  • Access to council services 
  • Advice on access to legal services 

You can also visit our digital hub to get information in British Sign Language (BSL) video on a wide range of topics.  If you can’t get to one of our branches, book an appointment on our video BSL Advice Line.

Mobile Advisory Service - Somerset

The Mobile Advisory Service (MAS) is a vehicle that goes out into the community to raise awareness, give equipment demonstrations and provide information on deafness and deaf issues. The MAS covers Hampshire & Somerset. 

The MAS provides a wide range of information on all aspects of hearing loss including: 

  • general information on sensory loss 
  • information and advice on how to use or adjust a hearing aid 
  • general sensory loss awareness advice 
  • information about lip reading, BSL, low vision services and other relevant classes 
  • information on Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Visual Impairment clubs 
  • information on local hearing and sight services 
  • information about tinnitus, Meniere's, Cochlear implants and other common problems 
  • information and referral to Sensory Services Team, Hearing Therapy and sight services and the Deaf Services Team 
  • information on education services 
  • signposting to other organisations such as Age Concern, Carer Support, CAB etc. 
  • Advice for carers and families

ACCESS – Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Service

ACCESS is an Information, Advice and Guidance service for adults Birmingham. We are delivering this service in partnership with BID.

We can provide information and advice on a range of issues, including:

  • BENEFITS: helping you understand what benefits you can get, helping you to fill in forms, helping you to challenge decisions
  • TRANSPORT: Helping you applying for blue badge and Freedom Passes
  • SOCIAL CARE: helping you to contact Adult Social Care, helping you to arrange Occupational Therapy assessments
  • GRANTS: Helping you to cover the cost of essential items if you are on a low income

We can support you by:

  • Signposting or referring you to other organisations
  • Contacting a third party on your behalf
  • Providing information leaflets and details of useful websites
  • Carrying out casework which includes filling out forms and writing letters


  • You must be 18 years and over
  • You must have some form of hearing loss
  • You must have a new or life changing condition
