We are looking for Advice organisations to participate in a pilot of the next phase of our Advice line for Deaf people (especially, but not limited to, British Sign Language (BSL) users).
The award winning deafPLUS Advice Line delivers a wide range of citizen’s advice under both AQS and FCA via video platforms such as Skype and Facetime.
deafPLUS is now seeking to make it available to Deaf people who present at the offices of partner Advice UK members, who will receive a staff training pack, partnership agreement covering GDPR etc and a tailored BSL video to show Deaf clients, explaining the deafPLUS advice line and how they will receive advice directly from a trained Deaf adviser. Your team would simply need to facilitate the Deaf client to use the video advice service, with casework then taken over remotely by the deafPLUS advice team.
Participation in the scheme will ensure that your Deaf clients are not delayed in receiving the advice they need, while you avoid most of the cost of supporting the client, including interpreter fees.
deafPLUS have recently been awarded a 3-year National Lottery grant to grow the helpline and we intend the service to eventually transition to an annual subscription, which will always be significantly cheaper than the cost of booking BSL interpreters. The service will be free to organisations joining the pilot until 2021.
