deafPLUS is a registered medium-sized charity and company limited by guarantee working to encourage integration and equality between deaf and hearing people in all areas of life. We provide a range of services from Advocacy to Employment, equipment to information and advice across 5 centres around the UK.
deafPLUS is seeking someone with experience in teaching lip reading and engaging with people over the age of 50 with hearing difficulties to lead informal groups covering London boroughs from the beginning of October 2018 to the middle of March 2019.
This post involves leading up to 3 groups per week. You will provide support to members, delivering an agreed programme. We will train you and provide the resources required to develop confidence in people with hearing loss.
The course is called Living with Hearing Loss for people over age 50. We have 6 courses, each one lasting for 8 weeks. We are looking for freelance teachers to fill this position. We encourage applications from those who might be interested in covering one or more courses.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST
a) Teach lip reading skills
b) To facilitate the Living with Hearing Loss groups across London
c) To engage with people and provide information supplied by deafPLUS
d) To supervise the lecturers invited by deafPLUS who join the weekly groups.
Terms and Conditions:
This is a freelance position for 3-9 hours per week depending on number of areas covered.
Salary up to £25 per hour, depends on experience and qualification if not qualification tutor, please send your rate with you.
The post holder will be expected to travel to various class locations within London to fulfill the role.
Must have a DSB.
The Classes will take place in Richmond, Elephant and Castle and Kensington and Chelsea from this October 2nd – December 6th 2018. Next January classes may take place in Lewisham, London Bridge and Bromley TBC.
